The American Society for Indexing held its 2026 Virtual Conference, Indexing in Interesting Times: Strategies for Thriving Amid Chaos, on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, and Thursday, June 11, 2026. On Wednesday, Mary Stevens led the session Meditation Practices for Care of the Body, Spirit, and Mind.
For indexers, who have the pressures of deadlines, she said it is important to periodically step away from work. She shared four meditation practices that indexers can use to relax and recharge during breaks. The first two meditation practices were oriented around care for the body. Movement and self-massage can help us to loosen up and address discomfort in specific parts of the body. We also practiced becoming attentive to our entire body through body scan meditation.
Two other meditation practices were oriented around care for the spirit and mind. She guided us in identifying a difficult emotion and its location in our body and then addressing it through a process of soften, sooth, and allow. The final meditation focused on watching our thoughts and calming the mental chatter.
I will discuss the next session of the ASI 2026 Virtual Conference in the following blog posting. For more information about the services provided by the author of this blog, please see the Stellar Searches LLC website, https://www.stellarsearches.com.
